I should say right away that this doesn’t apply to every type of website. In fact, I think that for the majority of websites, this isn’t something that’s really relevant. However, there are certain types of websites where you may have an option in your navigation you’d consider the ‘most important one’, and in those cases, they may be worth highlighting.
Let’s take an eCommerce store for example. They may have an option “Sale” on their navigation. That’s always a huge seller, so it may be worth giving that option a distinct color from the rest of the options to draw more attention to it. It’s a specific case, but in these specific kinds of cases, it can make a noticeable difference.
